INT. STYLISH HIGH-RISE APARTMENT – AFTERNOON

A gorgeous Black woman, MS. NEW YORK, facing the windows of her well-appointed apartment, holds a bouquet of deep red roses while reading from the card. In the background is a panoramic view of the Manhattan skyline. Throughout the shot, we see her mostly only in quick profile or from the rear.

              MS. NEW YORK (CONT’D)

And thoughts of you again…satiated…as we bring spring to an end with poetry and love floetry as summer begins.

An elaborate doorbell rings. Ms. New York sets down the flowers and then the card on a nearby end table, walks over to the front door and opens it.

              MAN’S VOICE (O.S.)

I take it you just received the flowers?

     She nods.             

              MAN’S VOICE (O.S., continuous)   

And the card?

     She nods again.

              MAN’S VOICE (O.S., continuous)

Are you ready?

     She smiles and nods once more.

              MAN’S VOICE (O.S., continuous)

Great. Let’s go.

     She walks out of view, closing the door behind her with a well-manicured hand with deep red painted fingernails.

[CUT TO]

EXT./INT. MANHATTAN – DAY AND NIGHT

Montage of Ms. New York with a handsome white guy in his late 20’s, DREW, in familiar romantic sights in Manhattan, NYC. Sequence goes in repeated day and night fashion, INTERCUT with some brief gentle and vicious lovemaking scenes back at Ms. New York’s apartment against an aural background of city sounds and music. The love scenes have an almost abstract artistically misty feel to them.

-Central Park (daytime)

-Dinner at an outdoor cafe (The Viceroy =)

-Boat ride on the Hudson river (night)

-Shopping at Neiman-Marcus or Gucci or some shit (daytime)

-Exiting the front of MOMA (afternoon)

-Horse-drawn carriage ride on Park Avenue (evening)

-Etc.

-Picnic lunch in Tompkins Square Park (late morning)

INT. STYLISH HIGH-RISE APARTMENT – EARLY AFTERNOON

Ms. New York is back at her place with various items from the weeklong escapade strewn over the otherwise immaculate and stylish apartment. She looks out her window at a plane heading west.

[DISSOLVE TO]

EXT. SFO AIRPORT ARRIVALS – AFTERNOON

Drew in tha Home Stretch...

Drew in tha Home Stretch...

Drew, putting on his sunglasses, walks through the doorway of the baggage claim area into the sunlight with his one small carry on bag. He pauses as he looks around and immediately sees J.D., [a charismatic-looking Black guy in his late 20’s...also in sunglasses (other description?)] leaning against a sporty red car. They walk up to each other.

                    J.D.

                   (Smiling)

Whatup pimp?

                   DREW

              (Smiling back)

Whatup playa?

      They do a brothers grip handshake and quick embrace.            

                   J.D.

So, how’s Ms. New York?

                   DREW

Beautiful, as always. Just like the city.

                   J.D.

Did she dig the note?

                   DREW

 But of course.

                   J.D.

Bet she tore yer ass up again.

                   DREW

              (Smiling again)

 Oh Yeah.

Smiling wider, Drew dips and drops the carry on, then lifts up the back of his shirt. He spins halfway to reveal the collection of fingernail-created red streaks on his back. He spins forward again, letting his shirt fall loose, and then picks up his bag.

                   DREW (CONT’D)

How can you not like that?

                   J.D.

I don’t know, dude. Niggas ain’t into havin’ scars on their back.

(beat)

Or didn’t you know that?

                    DREW

Would if they got ‘em this way.

                    J.D.

Cute, white boy. But point well-taken.

(beat)

So is it love?

                   DREW

Would be…if she’d say yes.

                   J.D.

So what now?

                   DREW

Whatever’s next.

       J.D. pulls his car keys from his front pocket.

                   J.D.

Good. Get in the car. We can make it just in time.

They both walk towards their respective sides of J.D.’s car and get in. J.D. turns on his CD player and blasts it.

[TITLE SEQUENCE]

THE GUY CODE

Aerial shot follows the red car driving north up the 101 to San Francisco, highlighting the city’s skyline. Towards the end of the opening credits, the song fades and the aerial shot veers from J.D.’s car to another part of the city and descends until the POV comes to rest at a distance on a graffitied new Scion parked in a mall lot outside a typical consumer electronics store. Three thug-styled hoodlum types sit inside the car waiting with gangsta rap music blaring. One is in the passenger seat and the other two are in back.
